Badgers v Pioneers: On Ice!

January 29, 2010 12:40 pm

Totally unexpected: Ice hockey is my new favorite sport, and probably the only sport we’re going to (continue) to make efforts to catch live on campus. Who knew that guys scooting around a little black thing on a frozen block of water while breaking out into little shared temper tantrums now and again would be so exciting? How did I come to feel this way?
Well. Our friend Rachel wanted to see the Denver (then rated No. 1) men’s hockey game against our new home team (UW Badgers, then rated No. 3), so we went with a bunch of other grad students from psyc + SOs and such an amazing time. I had no idea what seats to buy so I bought whatever the system gave me, which turned out fantastic bc the biggest fight of the game erupted RIGHT in front of us. Not that there weren’t plenty of fights (clearly this was my favorite part). But seriously, in general it was an amazing game: two highly ranked teams in a highly publicized/televised game, the “lower” of which is fighting on home turf… the Friday night game was tied 3-3 and went into OT (yes!). Glenn and I were literally on the edges of our seats the whole game (though I did spend a fair amount of the game just trying to find the puck…) Anyways, here are our smiling faces at the Kohl center:

I’m not sure how this never got posted… but we had a housewarming party with a bunch of our friends and it was fantastic! I spent a whole saturday (during exams) cooking up nearly everything I know how to cook, including “cake balls” which were hugely popular (think chocolate truffle crossed with gooey cake and frosting). OMG I love my new house. (but this may explain why I had to finish my finals in greensboro…)
